The students of the University of Port Harcourt on Monday 11th April staged a peaceful demonstration to protest the management decision to deregister students who have not been able to pay their school fees for the 2015/2016 session and that they won't write the semester exams which was schedule to begin on 11th April.
Some students which could not afford the school fees to pay on time had already been deregistered, meaning that they would have to repeat the session again, thereby loosing an academic session, hence automatic extra year.
This was what caused the protest and also the high school fees compared to other federal universities.
